Project overview
Adara Alexander Place is a multifamily apartment community in Raleigh, North Carolina featuring a resort-style aquatic amenity for residents. This project was one of my earlier permitting and project coordination experiences and became an important turning point in how I approached information gathering, permitting preparation, and internal project organization.
Challenges
Coordinating permitting and project information across multiple stakeholders without a standardized intake process — surfacing a clear gap in how project information was collected before permitting and coordination tasks could begin.
Lessons learned
This project led to the creation of the GIR (General Information Request) — a project intake worksheet I developed to collect critical information for permitting, filing, billing, project communication, contact tracking, jurisdictional coordination, and internal documentation. The GIR ensures the team has accurate project information before permitting begins, reducing confusion and improving communication between the office, project team, contractors, and outside contacts.
Key accomplishments
- Identified a gap in the company's process and created a practical solution
- Developed the GIR (General Information Request) project intake worksheet now used on later projects
- Improved permitting preparation, billing setup, and contact tracking across the team
- Grew from basic project support into a more systems-minded construction professional
Process Improvement: GIR Form
This project led to the creation of my GIR — General Information Request — a project intake worksheet I developed to collect critical project information for permitting, filing, billing, communication, contact tracking, jurisdictional coordination, and internal documentation. The GIR is a process-improvement tool I created to improve project organization and communication, ensuring the team has accurate project information in place before permitting and coordination work begins. It is still used to support later projects across the team.
